Who's up for some snowshoeing in Elk River, Idaho this weekend? We're really excited because we just got Jacob some snowshoes and we can't wait to try them out!

The plan is to park at the Park and Ski Area in town marked on this brochure: Palouse Winter Recreation Brochure.

We'll start with the small loop that follows Old Milwaukee Dr, hopefully with some view of the Elk Creek Reservoir. If we're doing well and feeling good, we can follow the nordic trails farther south along FS Rd 4769. This Forest Service Road actually connects to Elk Creek Falls Rd which takes you back to the Park and Ski Area at the junction of Highway 8. The trail loops back into town on FS RD 4757.

Feel free to start out with us and then break loose to do the full loop. If the timing works out, meet back up with us in town for some hot chocolate and maybe a sandwich at the Elkspresso B&B at 112 Main Street.

Please note, that the Elk River Park N' Ski Area does require a pass to help pay for the snow plow. You can pick up a single-use pass here:  Idaho State Park N’ Ski Program.

If you can't make it out to Elk River this weekend, check out our blog post, "4 Great Places to Go Snowshoeing in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests," for more ideas on places to play in the snow. The season will be gone before we know it, so get out while the snow is good!

See you on the trail!
