Join us for a scenic trek along the North Fork Slate Creek Trail on Saturday, May 23rd! This beautiful route winds through a dramatic canyon following the water, offering a mix of lush forest and rugged Idaho scenery. At least, that’s what Gemini says. I’ve never hiked this trail, but I have driven through this canyon a couple of times. It is lush and beautiful, that’s for sure. I’ve been eyeballing this trail for a few years now and I’m excited to see what it has to offer. I hope you’ll join me!

You can see trail details by clicking the Gaia Map below, but in general, we’ll follow the creek with a steady incline for approximately 3 miles, at which point we’ll hit a steep climb. The going will be considerably tougher from there, our goal being the 6 mile mark on a hilltop with a view of the river canyon below.

Pack food, water, sun protection, and tic repellent. Wear sturdy shoes and always dress in layers because these are Idaho mountains, after all. The weather can and will do whatever it wants. We hit the trail at 9:00am and expect to be back to our cars by 4:00pm.

This will be a challenging hike. We’ll do our best, but we leave no troll behind. Safety and fun first!

After the hike, we’ll head into White Bird to refuel with dinner and drinks at 1906 Brews.

Camping is available at the North Fork Slate Creek Campground right near the trailhead. The Forest Service site says there are 5 campsites available.

See you on the trail!
