The Great Burn Conservation Alliance will be working on the Jerry Johnson Trail #38 (the one behind the campground not the hot spring) over the weekend of June 1st and 2nd. This campground has been closed to the public for a couple of seasons, but will reopen after this restoration project. If you're looking for a cool way to celebrate National Trails Day, this is a great project to be part of. Here are some more details from the GBCA event page, where you will want to go to register for this free event:
DIFFICULTY
Hiking
Easy: We will be working on the trail right from the trailhead so there won’t be a large amount of hiking involved.
Work
Moderate: We will be doing trail work that involves swinging hand tools, digging tread, and possibly redoing drainages.
ITINERARY
Day 1 | Meet at Jerry Johnson campground at 0900MST to start the day. The USFS will get us started on the project. We plan to work until 1600MST with the option of working longer.
Day 2 | Volunteers have the opportunity to stay the night at the Jerry Johnson Campground with the group. Day 2 will consist of packing up and getting the campground ready to open to the public.
