Map

The Hells Gate Habitat Management Unit, just past Hells Gate State Park, is a popular place for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. But beyond the normal loop of intersecting trails, the River Run trail extends for another mile and half, cutting beneath steep rock climbing cliffs along the river's edge.

Saturday, March 29th, The Clearwater Trekkers will meet up at the Tammany Creek Trailhead at 9:00am. We'll loop the Habitat Management Unit in a clockwise fashion by following Warren's Ridge, Devil's Slide, and The Rollers bringing us back down to River Run. We'll follow River Run for about a mile and half out past the cliffs to the southern Habitat boundary.

On our way back, we'll take The Rollers to Easy Street and head back to the Tammany Creek Trailhead. Altogether, we're looking at just under 7.5 miles and a total elevation gain of approximately 1,500 feet. Visit our Event Page to see a Gaia map for more details.

Current weather reports are calling for mostly cloudy with a high of 57° and a 20% chance of precipitation. But this is Idaho, so check the weather before heading out and dress accordingly! The clouds will help because there is no tree coverage or shade on the hillside, but we can expect it to be a little cooler below the cliffs by the water's edge. Bring plenty of water and pack a lunch. We may be on the trail for about 5 hours.

Hope to see you there!
