The last time we made it out to Kirkwood Ranch was in 2016! It’s high time we go again. If you haven’t been out here before, you won’t want to miss this opportunity. Kirkwood Ranch is an old homestead that has become a popular, historical destination along the Snake River to visit.
We’ll meet up at the Trailhead on Saturday, May 1st at 10:00 AM MST. It’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Lewiston plus a time change. It’s about a 5-mile hike into the Ranch, where we will stay the night in the old sheep pasture down by the water.
For those who do not want to go all the way in, or who do not want to stay the night, we’ll do lunch as a group along the trail and anyone who wants to can hike back out after lunch. Or, if a 12-mile day hike is your thing, come all the way to the Ranch with us!
Early May should be a great time to experience this trail down on the warm Snake River. We should get in before the snakes get out and the temps get too high. Still, we recommend dressing in layers to accommodate the unpredictable Idaho weather. Bring plenty of water, too, because the trail is up above the river, so you won’t be able to refill until camp.
This is a fun, beautiful hike, and a great chance to explore more of our southern territory. I hope you’ll join us!
