This is it! Our first ever Discovery Trek! What is a Discovery Trek, you ask? Well, a Discovery Trek is a chance to get past the noise in your head and listen to the voice in your heart and share what you hear with fellow pilgrims around the fire. Discovery Treks go just a little bit deeper than our average day hikes or overnight trips. They are more intentional in the way we open ourselves up to nature and each other.
For this, our first, we will be spending 3 days on the Selway River Trail seeking what neuroscientist David Strayer described as “a kind of neural reboot that might boost creativity.” He called it the 3-Day Effect.
This is exactly what draws many of us to the mountain trail, especially amidst all the recent chaos. So I hope you’ll join us (as long as you are COVID-19 symptom-free) as we discover the 3-Day Effect for ourselves.
The plan is to hit the trail from the Race Creek Campground early on the morning of Friday, June 26th. We’ll hike 6 to 8 miles out and find a good place to set up camp for two nights. Day 2 will be spent in and around camp, hiking, swimming, and just enjoying being in nature. We’ll back to Race Creek Campground on Sunday, June 28th.
Race Creek Campground is located at the very end of the Selway Rd, about 24 miles from Lowell, ID. Camping there Thursday and Sunday nights are an option.
We will be on the trail for three days and two nights at the end of June. Please pack food, clothing layers, shelter, and footwear accordingly. We will be following the Selway River, so a water filter or purification tablets are recommended. If you lack any gear or have gear-related questions, please let us know so we can help! Also, please let us know if you can bring a satellite GPS device.
